Umphrey’s McGee 2010 Tour Poster

For Umphrey’s 2010 tour branding, I was inspired by Art Deco travel posters of the 1920’s and 30’s, particularly the work of Adolphe Cassandre.

I had only done a couple tee shirt designs and a New Years ad for Umphrey’s McGee before this one and it could easily have been the end of our relationship because my first comp was garbage — and I knew it.

I owe a big Thank You to Vince for giving me a few extra days to make it right, and a huge one to my Old Man who came down to my apartment and spent a Saturday afternoon helping me start from scratch.

Notes

This image started life as an admat (a layout-flexible newspaper ad template), then became the 11" x 17" venue write-in poster, then for Summer Camp Music Festival that May I made proper big ass screen print of it.

Color separations by Richie Goodtimes. (This is the only poster for which I did not make my own color separations, because the image was originally made for offset and I didn't want to screw it up.)
